OKAVANGO HORSE SAFARIS
Meet the Team
Every member of our team is treated as family. We believe that fair pay, good food and accommodation and training opportunities is the bare minimum the Okavango Horse Safaris team deserve. We strive to make our company a rewarding, enjoyable place to work, and one which enables our team to gain the skills and experience they need to achieve their ambitions

Gareth
Owner and Guide
Gareth was born and bred in Maun, Botswana, and was out enjoying the bush long before he could walk or talk. He spent much of his childhood in Botswana’s remotest areas with his father and many other veteran safari guides, cementing his love of the wilderness and its flora and fauna. Having attended school in Zimbabwe and South Africa Gareth spent time in the UK studying, and with the British Army. He quickly realised his heart was in Africa and returned home to spend the next fifteen years as a professional guide leading high-end, luxury vehicle, horseback, walking and even canoeing safaris in Botswana, Kenya and beyond. Gareth combines an infectious sense of adventure, and a love of storytelling with an eagle eye for well-camouflaged game ensuring his guests have as good a time around the campfire as they do when enjoying spectacular game sightings.

Alex
Owner
Alex grew up in England in the Oxfordshire countryside, spending much of her time in nature with her horse, dog and four siblings. She’s been extremely lucky to have travelled extensively in many parts of the world and has developed a keen eye for guest experience along the way. Alex first set foot in Botswana in April 2013, she instantly fell in love with the country and moved out later that year to work as a camp manager at OHS where she met Gareth. Buying OHS from Barney and PJ Bestelink in 2025 was the culmination of a long held dream.

Rodgers
Guide
Born in Etsa 13 in the North of the Delta. Rodgers joined OHS in 1993 as a groom. In 2006 Rodgers qualified as a guide and since then has worked his way up to being our head guide and laterly our non riding guide. A passionate and highly knowledgeable guide, Rodgers will lead you through the flooded grass plains and small islands with an ease and grace difficult to replicate. He takes great pleasure in regaling guests with stories from the past and is as comfortable guiding by Mokoro as he is in a vehicle or by foot.

Mmushi
Guide
Mmushi is from Motlhabaneng village in the Tuli Block. He's been at OHS since 2020 but gained his guides licence in 2020. Super comfortable in the saddle Mmushi loves exploring the delta on his trusty lead horse Seaswell. His exceptional knowledge, calm demeanor and laid back character make Mmushi a firm guest favourite and a real pleasure to have on the team.

Boy
Guide
Boy started working for OHS in 2011 as a groom. His love for horses and experiencing the delta from horseback quickly became evident and he progressed to becoming one of our riding guides very quickly. Boy is known for his infectious smile, amazing eyesight and keen bush sense. Always quick to laugh but with an eye on safety at all times Boy is a truly wonderful guide.

OB
Head of Maintanence
OB has been working for OHS since 2004 and can proudly say that he has built most of our camp with his own hands. An incredibly talented individual there is little in regards to maintaining a camp that OB does not know about. Whilst living in camp with his wife, Evelyn, he works tirelessly to make sure that everything works perfectly during your stay. No small feet when living in the middle of the Okavango Delta! A key part of our team OB is greatly respected by both his peers and the management team and a key member of the OHS family.

Koshanda
Head of Household
Working for OHS since 1992, Koshunda is now in charge of all household and catering matters within camp. Her ability to run the kitchen seamlessly while maintaining a smile and good humour are a credit to her. She now has a team of 9 working with her and is invaluable in the day to day running of camp and all of the logistics involved with camp moves, stocks and ordering. She is also responsible for staff training.
